Toiles For 3rd Review

These are some of the toiles that i showed at the last review, they show how i am starting to add the chain effect into my work.

Ruffle dress with added chains down the side and front
Chains and ruffles
Jacket with chains moved from the back onto the sleeves
Back view - moving chains around

Fitted maxi dress with corset inside - chains on the front
The chains are hanging at the length of the corset inside.

More is better ..

For my collection I am moving onto adding a lot more chains onto all my outfits. My line - up has completly changed since talking to the tutors on Thursday. I am about to begin re creating my outfits and adding a lot of chains onto each garment. The colours will be reflected through the beads, and the fabric will be very plain, but sophisticated, so it is suitable for party wear! :-)

New Toiles ...

Trying out simple chains on the ruffle dress
Fitted black dress with corset hidden on the inside.
Corest that is attached to the lining.
Complete with boning.
Simple jacket.
Chain detail on the back.
The chains create new shapes in the fabric by pulling it down.

Latest Toile Review ..

Today i had my 3rd review of the semester, it went really well even though some of my designs and outfits have completly changed. I am making the bead/chain idea the main aspect of my designs and from the advice of my tutor my clothes are going to be fun party dresses. I am sticking with 2 of my original ideas which was a black fitted dress with loads of pink chains, and also my ruffle dress. I am now doing a one shouldered dress with a lot of chains going down the sleeve and one side of the dress, and also another dress that has ruffles and chains all over. I am quite excited to start making these as i now feel that my collection flows and fits together a lot more. I will be re-doing my line up and also researching into suitable sexy fabrics that i can use! :-)

3rd Year Fashion Show

As well as all the work that i have going on at the moment we also have to organise everything for our end of year fashion show. As a year group we have had a couple of meetings about what needs to be done and we are starting to look into possible venues that we could use. We are looking to hold it in London, but depending on the price we are not to sure about the area.

We also have to do a lot of fundrasing to get as much money as we can to have the best show possible. We will all be contributing to this, with everyone having different ways/ ideas of how to raise money.

I'll keep you updated on the progress we make :-)

Working Hard ....

Tomorrow I am going to be cracking on with pattern cutting and sorting out all my patters for my current outfits that i am exploring. Im going to be taking my time and listening to the feedback that i was given on thursday so i can hopefully get them right once and for all! :-)

I am also going to start my next 2 outfits and see how they turn out it calico, before going to buy some suitable/ cheap fabric that i can try all my outfits in. Te fabrics that i buy will be similar to the fabrics i hope to finally make them in! :-)

Its going to be a busy week, but i'm going to work as hard as possible to achieve the best results! :-)

Dissertation Weekend ..

This weekend i am going to be working really hard on my dissertation as Monday is the first formative assessment where we take a draft of what we have written to our tutor and get feedback before the 17th December deadline. I want to have as much done as possible, because the more feedback i get on monday the better. As i'm writing this i have 1500 words done, with more research and findings to add. It takes time to put it all together because i have to make sure it all flows and reads properly, and of course makes sense.

2nd Toile Review Feedback ...

This week i had another toile review and i showed the tutors my new toiles that i have been working on since they last saw my outfits. I have started workin with the chains and addin them to my work, but when the tutor saw them he gave me new ideas of how to attach and use the chains in more effective ways. These next 2 weeks are going to consist of me re-doing outfits 1 & 2, and then making a start on 3 & 4.

Outfit 1 feedback - This is the maxi dress and corset combo, ready for the review i sewed the corset onto the maxi dress, and added chains onto the corset so it drew attention to the middle of the dress. My tutor thinks i should now try sewing the corset into the lining so its hidden and use the chains to create the corset shape on the outside. Im going to try this and i'll upload pictures of how it turns out soon.

Outfit 2 feedback - This outfit is a ruffle dress and jacket. again for this review i tried to make the ruffles stand out more, and also added chains onto the ruffles. I didnt have a lot of chains to use so only put a few on, but for my next review im going to buy a load of chain and use it a lot on the whole outfit. I also added chains to the back of the jacket, but the advice i was give was to maybe add them to the sleeves so they hang either side and can be more seen.

As soon as the new toiles are made i will upload photos. :-)

GHD TV Advert

The new GHD TV advert is a great reference for me to use in my work. The clothes in the film are very over the top and extravagant. The dresses are full of ruffles and and all puffy. I think this is very inspiring to see when im creating my garments, as it is full of ideas of how i could create some of my own garments. Even though it's not advertising clothes, i think they play a huge part in the idea behind the advert.

Below is the link to watch the advert in full and see what all the fuss is about ...

Working With Chains/ Necklaces ..

Flat Design Specs ..

Flat Specs are a working drawing of the outfits that i am going to make. It is just a basic shape of the garment, with details of what's going onto it. I originally drew these out free hand but if they are drawn rough they are not very useful to work from. So i have been trying to get used to using illustrator, and after a few days i have managed to create them all on the computer. I am proud to have achieved this as the computer makes them look a lot more neat and professional.

Progress

Okay so this week i have been working on my next 2 toiles and also re doing my first to, taking into account all the feedback that i was given at my review. I have been working on the stand and trying out ways to get chains/ necklaces into my work. My tutor thinks this is a great way of expressing Greed through the work, so im hoping to find the best ways for this to happen. I have pictures from my work i did on the stand which i will upload shortly.

Dissertation Time ...

Okay so over the past few weeks inbetween preparing for the toile review and todays first formative assessment i have been researching for my dissertation. I am writing about Lust/Desire and how it is a huge influence in what we buy, and how shops and designers have used this idea to 'lure' us into their products. I have some research but i am going to continue until i have enough to start writing it and putting it all together. By Monday's tutorial i need to have around 2000 words written, as in 2 weeks time the draft needs to be handed in! :-(

Writings not my strongest point so i dont want to leave it right until the last minute to complete. I want to crack on with it now and hopefully have a decent piece of writing to hand in very soon!

Review Day

Today was the first toile review of the semester. It actually went really well and i got some really helpful feedback that im sure is going to help me further my collection. My toile's that I showed today were a maxi dress with a corset on top, and a short ruffle dress with a jacket. The tutor gave me ideas of how to bring them more together like making the corset a panel in the dress so its all one, and also making my ruffles a lot bigger so they stand out more. I am also going to look into sewing chains onto fabric as this could be a very strong element that flows through my whole collection.

I am now preparing all my work for Thursday's formative assessment. I'm getting my line up al drawn and together with fabric samples and specific colours. I also need to do a few more design ideas to show my new thoughts, and also try and incorporate the new chain idea.

Preparing For My First Toile Review

Over the past week and weekend i have been busy getting designs done so i could make 2 outfits for my first toile review. At the beginning of the week i was a little confused with what i was going to make but i have been really thinking about my collection and how i can make it wearable and all link together. I have been doing designs that link each sin together, for example my first 2 outfits are a ruffle dress (greed) matched with a smart jacket (pride), and then a long smart maxi dress (pride) matched with a pink corset (lust). The idea is to link them all together so they all reflect one another. Im trying to make it a fun collection that young people could see themselves wearing. I first of all toiled the outfits in calico, and then went a brought some fabric similar to what my final outfits will be made from and toiled them in that. I wanted to see what they would look like in proper fabric so i can get an idea of what i really what to use on the final ones.

Pictures will be uploaded shortly....

This Weekend

Over the weekend i have been busy getting all the designs and fabric research ready for tuesday's class. I have been working on the stand trying out ways to create ruffle's and also seeing how ripped fabric sits on the body. I have been doing designs and trying to visualise 5 outfits as a hole collection. Below are some pictures of my work ...
